Who we are

ihavetodecide.com ("ihavetodecide," "we," "us") is a free website that helps people make decisions. Questions about this policy go to hello@ihavetodecide.com.

What you type

When you ask for help, the text you enter (and any answers to follow-up questions) is sent from your browser to our server, and from there to Anthropic, the company whose AI model, Claude, writes your answer. We pass it through to get your answer and send the answer back to you. We don't save your questions or answers on our server.

Anthropic processes that text to generate the response, under its own commercial terms and privacy policy. Please don't include things you wouldn't want processed by a third party, such as full names of other people, account numbers, passwords, or medical record details. You'll get just as good an answer without them.

Your saved decisions

The "Your decisions" list, including whether you marked something decided, is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. It is never sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. If you use a different browser or device, or a private window, your list won't be there.

Daily limits and your IP address

To keep the site free and fair, each visitor gets a limited number of decisions per day. To count them, our server takes your IP address, scrambles it with a one-way hash (so the original address isn't stored), and records the times you asked. Entries older than 24 hours are dropped. We also keep a running total of how many questions everyone asked that day.

Server logs

Like nearly every website, our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are kept according to the host's standard retention practices.

Cookies and tracking

We don't set cookies, and we don't use advertising trackers or analytics tools.

• Fonts: the site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
• Amazon links: if an answer includes a "Shop on Amazon" button and you click it, you leave our site. Amazon may set its own cookies to credit the referral to us, and Amazon's privacy notice applies there.

Affiliate disclosure

As an Amazon Associate, ihavetodecide earns from qualifying purchases. Shop buttons are added only after an answer is written, by a separate step that can't change the advice. A purchase through our link doesn't cost you anything extra.

Selling or sharing your information

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers needed to run the site: Anthropic (to write answers), our hosting provider, and Google Fonts. We may disclose information if required by law.

Children

ihavetodecide is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices and rights

Because we don't keep accounts or store your questions, there is usually nothing on our server tied to you. You can clear your saved decisions in your browser at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal information; to ask about anything, email hello@ihavetodecide.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
